Created by the Family Development Foundation (FDF) in partnership with the Department of Community Development (DCD), the guide is filled with thoughtful, practical advice for families. It suggests simple steps — like adding grab bars in bathrooms, placing non-slip mats near the shower, improving lighting in stairwells and hallways, and keeping the floor clear of obstacles. These aren't big or expensive fixes, but they can truly reduce the risk of falls and accidents at home.

There’s also a growing role for technology in senior care, and the guide encourages families to explore options like motion sensors, emergency call buttons, or smart lights that can be turned on with voice commands. These devices are meant to provide peace of mind — not only for the seniors using them but for their families too.

But the guide doesn’t stop at physical safety. One of its most meaningful messages is about emotional support. It reminds families how important it is to check in regularly, have conversations, and make time for their elders. After all, feeling safe isn’t just about avoiding injury — it’s about knowing someone cares, and that you’re not alone.

Another section offers advice on being ready for emergencies. It walks families through creating a basic plan, setting up a first-aid kit, and keeping important phone numbers within reach. These small steps can make a big difference in urgent moments.

The guide is now available both online and in print, so it’s easy for families across Abu Dhabi to get a copy. And for those who need extra help — like financial support to make home upgrades — assistance may be available through local programs.
