In a big win for India’s fight against international drug crime, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully secured the deportation of Taher Salim Dola from the United Arab Emirates. Dola is a key accused in the massive ₹252 crore mephedrone drug trafficking case, which rocked Maharashtra in 2023.

The accused was wanted in a high-profile drug operation linked to the Sangli district. He had been hiding in Dubai after fleeing India, but CBI’s efforts, combined with close coordination with Interpol and UAE authorities, led to his arrest and deportation to Mumbai.

This high-stakes operation is part of India’s ongoing crackdown on narco-terrorism and cross-border drug syndicates. Officials say Dola’s return will help uncover deeper links in the drug network, potentially leading to more arrests.

Authorities appreciated the UAE’s swift cooperation in acting on the Red Corner Notice issued through Interpol. Upon arrival in India, Dola was taken into custody and is expected to face interrogation by anti-drug enforcement teams.

This case is a strong message to international drug traffickers: No matter where you hide, the law will catch up with you.
